Budaya Dayak Tak Tergilas Zaman

Endless Dayak Culture of the Day

The customs and culture of the Dayak tribe, which is one of the indigenous tribes of Berau, which is domiciled in the interior, is well known abroad. In fact, still maintained and not eroded by all modern times, become the main attraction for domestic tourists and foreign tourists.

Not wanting the customs and culture of the Dayak Kenyah tribe to disappear just because of increasingly sophisticated technological developments, the Dayak tribesmen were inherited by their parents to defend the customs and cultures created by their ancestors and always be grateful to the creator when they succeeded in farming.

So there is no need to be surprised if Dayak residents reside in Tepian Buah Village, Segah Subdistrict, each year holding Mecaq Undat, better known as a harvest party and this tradition has been preserved for generations. Like what is held by the community of Tepian Buah Village which is on the agenda every year. The event was held in the framework of thanksgiving for their abundant crops.

As a village that is thick with customs and culture, the celebration of the harvest party is also presented with a typical Dayak dance, where these dances involve the local village youth, and the dances that are presented depict them cultivating until they reap the crops.

But what is not less interesting is when the local women pound rice to soft become rice flour. The method is very simple and manual like its predecessors when they want to make a food made from rice flour. Before pounding it uses a pestle of round wood about one meter after the rice is placed on a mortar, which is about one meter long. After the rice is placed in a mortar which is four meters long in the form of a long boat.

They rejoiced that they were busy working together with accompaniment to Dayak tribes’ music and dance by the adam. Regent Muharam and Vice Regent Agus Tantomo along with other officials also took part in enjoying the culture of mutual cooperation. Every now and then there was a loose smile with a cheerful face, they also seemed very excited not to know tired, including Regent Muharram and Vice Regent Agus Tantomo.

Even the Regent of Muharram had tears in his heart, because remembering that high school until college had been a laborer washing rice, every day at least the Muharram Regent had to wash as much as two kwuintal of rice, after which it was ground into flour.

“Now imagine sir … ma’am … every day I have to get up at four in the morning, wash the rice of two kwuintal and be ground into flour. Because of this flour, I came to become a regent like now, “said the Regent of Muharram in front of the invited attendees at the harvest event.

Because of that, Regent Muharam invited local residents to maintain the culture, as a form of traditional and cultural wealth owned by Tepian Buah Village, Segah District.

“Thank God, I look at the dancers – these dancers were among young people. This means that the parents in this village managed to pass on to the young people as the next generation, to preserve this custom and culture, “he said.

This was also according to the Regent of Muharram, according to the village known as a cultural village. Where this Tepian Buah Village has won one place in the provincial level, even at the national level, taking part in the village competition. So it is not excessive if the Berau District Government through the Office of Tourism and Culture (Disparbud) in 2017 then gave a decree (SK) which stipulated Tepian Buah Village, Kecamatan Segah, as a cultural village.

Hopefully Regent Muharram, through the celebration of this traditional party, all young people living in the village of Tepian Buah feel called to always preserve the culture, and the village of Tepian Buah is an example of other villages, to always preserve the customs and culture that inherited from his predecessors.(Bangun Banua)
